R.W. Tomlinson recognizes the significant effort towards achieving a 100% scoring on COR™ certification
R.W. Tomlinson Limited is excited to announce the 3rd company to achieve to CoR certification Certificate of Recognition (COR™) from the Infrastructure Health & Safety Association (IHSA).
IHSA brought the COR™ certification program to Ontario in 2011 as a way to raise the standard of injury and illness prevention in the province. As of January 2020, Tomlinson is now one of the 400 companies certified across the province of Ontario.
“It has been a long road to get this certification and it was only possible from the effort put forth by the management and workers that we were successful. By achieving this certification it lets everyone know that safety is a core value at Tomlinson’s and it will help improve the safety culture throughout the company,” said Chris Keeping, Director of Health and Safety, Tomlinson Group.
On January 10, 2020, the City of Ottawa issued a Technical Bulletin to make the Ottawa construction industry aware of the phased implementation related to the requirement of an OHSMS as part of the procurement process and prior to awarding a contract.
In order to gain COR, Tomlinson was required to demonstrate a working health and safety program, including formal, standardized and consistent health and safety policies and develop a written corrective action plan to ensure continuous improvement. The company also had to undertake internal and external audits, and meet the assessment criteria for all 19 elements laid out by the IHSA.
“Congratulations everyone! A tremendous amount of effort went into this process in an effort to ensure we are continuing to grow as an organization and implement what we feel is important to each one of us. The safety of our people !
As we firmly establish these processes in our day-to-day routines, we will see the benefits that a safe work environment creates and help us reach our vision of Zero loss time injuries in the workplace.
Thank you to everyone who was part of the heavy lift to get us here, and all of you who will keep us moving forward” said Ron Tomlinson, CEO.
