Innovating for the Future

Tomlinson’s industry-recognized approach to environmental responsibility is rooted in innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement. From the beginning, environmental stewardship has been core to who we are: recycling, reusing, and reducing long before it became an industry standard. These values drive every decision we make, from fuelling our fleet to designing low-carbon materials. It’s a commitment to building smarter and cleaner, supporting a sustainable future at every level of our operations.

Our Policy

Elevating Standards. Minimizing Impact.

As Eastern Canada’s leading partner in construction materials, environmental services, and complex infrastructure projects, Tomlinson understands the responsibility that comes with operating in an energy-intensive industry. Beyond meeting all environmental regulations, we’ve built a proactive, full-spectrum approach to sustainable leadership, spanning targeted R&D, closed-loop material practices, and other circular economy solutions.

We’re investing in renewable fuel sources like compressed natural gas (CNG), renewable natural gas (RNG), and hydrogen to support a cleaner, lower-carbon future. Our environmental services fleet currently includes more than 35 CNG-powered vehicles, with two additional ready-mix CNG trucks arriving soon.In partnership with Harvest Green, we’re also advancing pyrolysis technology that converts recovered plastics and biomass into low-carbon energy. This initiative supports our long-term vision to reduce landfill waste and emissions across operations.

Sustainable Solutions

Tomlinson is advancing practical, measurable sustainability across our operations, from low-carbon materials and large-scale recycling to renewable fuels, waste diversion, and organics processing. Through initiatives that reduce emissions, recover resources, and extend the life of critical infrastructure, we’re committed to building greener communities with solutions that deliver real environmental impact.

ENVIRO Line Concrete

Our Enviro Low Carbon Concrete mix delivers high performance and a low carbon footprint, producing 35% less CO₂ than the Concrete Ontario industry average.

Recycled Concrete & Asphalt

Over the last decade, Tomlinson has diverted 100,000 tonnes of concrete, 40,000 tonnes of asphalt, and 3,000 tonnes of glass from local landfills.

Waste Recovery & Landfill Diversion

We recover up to 80% of the materials we receive at our Construction & Renovation Sorting Facility, often cutting up to 40,000 tonnes of landfill CO₂ emissions each year.

Compressed Natural Gas Services

Tomlinson has opened its first third-party CNG fast-fuelling station in Ottawa, and is converting its fleet to run on compressed natural gas, cutting GHG emissions by roughly 30%.

Idling Time Initiative

In 2024, more than 1,600 employees across 288 projects in Eastern Ontario worked together to reduce fleet idling by 2.12% - equivalent to running a medium-sized excavator continuously for 133 days.

Organics Processing Facility in Kingston

Our facility converts green waste into high-grade compost used by commercial landscapers to enrich soil and by engineers to control erosion.
