Project Description

  • Girders & lanes removed, new outside lanes constructed during the coldest months of the year
  • Excavators & barges used to remove girders & lanes
  • Covered black shale bedrock in just 4 hours with new concrete to avoid reaction to oxygen
  • Bridge safely cantilevered over 48-inch high pressure water main to avoid damage
  • Catch pan created for falling debris to avoid contamination of Ottawa river
  • Twenty-eight reinforced concrete girders & 2 train track rails placed in 1 weekend
  • 3,000 tonnes of concrete carried on site to be crushed

Requirements

  • Install 3 lanes of traffic in both directions
  • Build abutments over a 48-inch high pressure water main
  • Avoid contamination of the Ottawa river
