Project Description
- Girders & lanes removed, new outside lanes constructed during the coldest months of the year
- Excavators & barges used to remove girders & lanes
- Covered black shale bedrock in just 4 hours with new concrete to avoid reaction to oxygen
- Bridge safely cantilevered over 48-inch high pressure water main to avoid damage
- Catch pan created for falling debris to avoid contamination of Ottawa river
- Twenty-eight reinforced concrete girders & 2 train track rails placed in 1 weekend
- 3,000 tonnes of concrete carried on site to be crushed
Requirements
- Install 3 lanes of traffic in both directions
- Build abutments over a 48-inch high pressure water main
- Avoid contamination of the Ottawa river
