Commerce Township in Michigan successfully implemented Lystek THP® technology at its wastewater treatment plant in spring 2024. This innovative approach, utilizing Lystek’s patented thermal-chemical hydrolysis process, has enabled the township to produce Class A Lystegro® biosolids, thereby diverting waste from landfills. By transitioning to a sustainable biosolids resource recovery program, Commerce Township has eliminated landfill disposal and reduced operational costs associated with solids handling. This environmentally friendly solution not only ensures long-term cost certainty for the township but also contributes to a significant reduction the program’s carbon footprint.
“We’re looking forward to our first haul and we’re looking forward to never going to landfill again,” said Mary Koeger, Oakland County Water Resources Assistant Chief Engineer, Commerce Wastewater Treatment Plant.
