Great Teamwork Quickly Repairs Ottawa Sinkhole
On June 8, 2016, a massive sinkhole closed Rideau Street, a busy tourist, commercial and retail centre, in downtown O awa. Tomlinson was one of the rst construc on companies to arrive on the scene, immediately helping to stabilize and ll the sinkhole. Along with many other companies and u lity service providers, Tomlinson helped ensure the safe reinstatement of the area in an aggressive meline of just three weeks. By June 29, work crews had repaired the damaged infrastructure and restored service to all a ected businesses in me for the annual Three Amigos summit and for the Canada Day celebra ons.
Tomlinson’s capability to rapidly respond and provide a diverse range of services were crucial to the overall success of the repair project. Combined with their project management exper se, Tomlinson’s Ready Mix, City and Sewer/Watermain divisions all played important roles.
E orts included:
• Supplying 700 cubic metres of Ready Mix concrete to help ll the massive sinkhole
• Reinsta ng the sewers/ watermains a ected by the sinkhole
• Backfilling and compacting road sub-grade materials
• Re-paving Rideau Street
Tomlinson crews were present some mes 24 hours a day, some divisions working 16 hour days and over the nal weekend to make sure the area was safe for the public.
