Field Quality Control Technicians
From the first bucket of earth, to the final application of traffic paint, quality control is paramount in every facet of our road building. Our technicians are responsible for quality control in all areas of construction: including concrete, asphalt, structures, aggregates grading and electrical. Tomlinson provides on going technical support and training for our team of specialists, to ensure the most current applications are implemented.
The structural quality control technician requires a broad knowledge of items, such as concrete, rebar, structural steel, bearings, piles and expansion joints. All concrete testing is conducted by a Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and American Concrete Institute (ACI) approved concrete technician. Our asphalt technicians are knowledgeable in the areas of volumetrics, compaction and placement techniques, as well as technical sampling and testing requirements.
Materials produced from our quarries and asphalt plants are tested to stringent frequencies. These results are reviewed and evaluated immediately. Prompt turn around time provides authorities with an appropriate response.
Quality Control Laboratories
We maintain two certified Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories (CCIL). Our main facility on Rideau Rd. is certified for Type A, B, C, D and Superpave certifications. Our recently fabricated mobile unit is certified for Type B, C and Superpave certifications. All production facilities are tested on a daily basis to ensure quality compliance with the challenging specifications of government and private agencies.
Testing, analysis and reporting of all aggregates and asphalt are conducted and verified by a staff of technicians and professional engineers. Access to these results on a daily basis allows management to implement changes to consistently ensure products of the highest quality.
Asphalt mix designs are produced using both the Marshall and Superpave methods in accordance with the latest LS Test methods and AASHTO Specifications. Our laboratories are equipped with gyratory compactors and ignition ovens. The equipment is continuously calibrated and maintained, in a facility designed to meet the rigorous standards of today’s working environment.
